Source and boundary conditions in FDTD analysis for optical pulse propagation in 3-D scattering medium are described. New boundary conditions are derived based on the integral form of diffusion equations by utilizing Gauss’s Theorem. The boundary conditions are defined by both fluence rate and radiant flux and isotropic point sources even in the surface cells are enabled to be incorporated. Next, source isotropic point source power assignments to the discrete Yee grids are proposed, in which the point source power is divided into the two adjacent Yee grid points in inversely proportional to the distance between the source and the grid points. Backward scattered reemissions from semi-infinite scattering medium of 0.02 and 2 mm-1 in absorption and scattering coefficients were calculated based on the FDTD analysis and the numerical results were compared with analytical solutions. The both are in good agreement, which justify the FDTD formulation proposed here. |
