Vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) is an attractive light source because of its low threshold, single longitudinal-mode operation, and high-speed modulation. In addition, the VCSEL is suitable for short pulse generation because of the short photon life time due to the very short cavity. Therefore, a high-speed picosecond pulse source can be realized with a simple configuration by using a gain-switched VCSEL. In this paper, we describe 10 GHz pulse generation from gain-switched InGaAs VCSEL at 1.1 um. The shortest pulse pulse width of 11.5 ps was obtained after chirp compensation. |
