Resource Allocation for Achieving Tradeoff between Peak Power and Channel Capacity in Block Transmission of Multiuser OFDM
Osamu Takyu, Yohtaro Umeda (Tokyo Univ. of Sci) RCS2009-89
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this paper, the novel subcarrier assignment for achieving large channel capacity as well as small PAPR of transmitted signal is proposed in multiuser OFDM system. In the proposed assignment, some resource blocks composed of multiple subcarriers are acceptably assigned to the mobile user having the second largest signal to noise power ratio (SNR) among all the mobile users. As a result, multiple assignment candidates are constructed and then base station can select one assignment as the PAPR of the OFDM signal becomes small. From the computer simulation, as increasing the number of resource blocks assigned to the mobile station having second largest SNR, the PAPR reduction is more effective but the channel capacity decreases. Therefore, the proposed assignment establishes PAPR -- Channel Capacity trade off. However, when the number of mobile users increases, base station has the more opportunities of finding the mobile station having large SNR. It is user diversity effect. Owing to user diversity, the PAPR -- channel capacity trade off constructed by proposed assignment becomes better.
