This paper investigates an constant-rate automatic repeat request (ARQ) for multicast transmission. The constant-rate property is important for the multicast transmission, since the predetermined data rate is needed to be kept using given spectrum and transmission power regardless of the use of retransmission. In the proposed ARQ scheme, the hierarchical modulation is used for multiplexing initial and retransmission packets when retransmission requests occurred, so that the initial and retransmission packets are transmitted simultaneously. From the computer simulation results, the proposed ARQ scheme reduces the required signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for achieving target packet error rate (PER), about 10-2, comparing to the case without ARQ and with fixed number of retransmissions. |
