Simulated annealing algorithm for solving optimal arrangement problems in a linear consecutive-k-out-of-n: F system

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A linear consecutive-k-out-of-n: F system consists of n components arranged along a linear path. This system fails if, and only if, k or more consecutive components fail. As n increases, because no invariant optimal arrangement of such system exists except for the cases of k=1, 2, n-2, n-1, n, the amount of calculation would be too much to obtain the optimal arrangement within a reasonable computing time. In this paper, we applied simulated annealing algorithms to obtain quasi optimal arrangements and proposed neighborhood generating methods to make search more efficient. We investigated those performances through some numerical experiments.
