A study on software reliability assessment via bootstrap
Ryota Hakozaki, Tadashi Dohi (Hiroshima Univ.) R2009-28
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In past a huge number of parametric software reliability models have been developed with
the aim of quantitative estimation of software reliability. Since the parametric models
are based on scenarios on the fault-detection process in software testing phase, it is difficult
in general to validate the physical meaning of the scenarios themselves assumed in parametric modeling.
Hence, we need to identify the best model from the various points of view by taking account
of parameter estimation, statistical test and model selection. In this article we consider
a non-parametric situation where the cumulative number of software faults detected in system
test is described by a non-homogeneous Poisson process but its intensity function is unknown.
We apply the kernel based method and the related bootstrap techniques to estimate the software intensity
function and its confidence interval in a non-parametric way. Especially, we focus on the
quantitative methodology to estimate the software reliability and investigate effects on the
underlying sampling methods/construction of confidence intervals to the quantitative software
reliability assessment.
