Electro-optic modulator with an arbitrary frequency response using polarization reversal structures

(in English) We have proposed a new method to design an electro-optic (EO) modulator with an arbitrary modulation frequency response in a fixed frequency range utilizing the polarization reversal technology of ferroelectric optical crystals. By adopting a non-periodic polarization reversal structure to a traveling-wave EO modulator, its modulation frequency response is changed according to the reversal pattern. However, a design method to realize an arbitrary modulation frequency response was not established. We have proposed two parameters to tailor the frequency responses of both a modulation index and modulation phase. Utilizing these parameters, we can obtain EO modulators with tailored frequency responses in the designed frequency range. Several examples of designed modulators are presented.
