| (in English) | Kanto Bureau of Telecommunications, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (Soumu-sho) launched a study committee in 2006 named ‘Communication support system for urban disaster’. The committee, which consists of expert members from government, private corporates and universities, conducted a field trial in Tokyo in January 2009 aiming mainly at technology feasibility proof on post-disaster communication provided by wireless multihop networks, wireless LAN mesh network and mobile ad hoc network. The trial assumed a situation that communication using mobile phone is not necessarily available due mainly to the restriction on traffic concentrated on basic stations. Needed support functions and services specifically to urban communication characteristics are well considered and evaluated in this trial. This report describes the objectives and overview of the trial. | |
