Throughput Performance Evaluation of a Space-Time MAC Protocol Using ESPAR Antenna

(in English) Directional medium access control(DMAC) protocols with directional antennas have been recently proposed. These MAC protocols are designed as a technique for controlling the direction of communication by using information on terminals' location and ideal beam patterns. However, when such information cannot be obtained, it is impossible to communicate with its party. And also, beam patterns with real antennas exhibit side lobes and back lobes, by which the terminals suffer from interference waves that would not exist in ideal beam patterns. We have proposed a space-time MAC protocol using ESPAR antenna that works without information on terminal location. In this paper, we evaluate a throughput performance of the space-time MAC protocol. Comparing with a conventional directional MAC protocol and IEEE.802.11 MAC protocol. The proposed MAC protocol exhibits a higher throughout performance in case that the terminals are in a parallel topology.
