Influence of Neural Refractory Period on Phase Response Curve

(in English) It is necessary to elucidate the relation between neuronal dynamics and membrane response property to understand the dynamics of neural networks.Spike Response Model is an analytically tractable neuron model describing membrane property by kernel functions.The phase response curve(PRC), on the other hand, is one of useful tools to understand of neuronal dynamics.In our previous study, we analytically showed the relation between subthreshold membrane response property of a single neuron and the PRC.In recent experimental studies, it has been shown that the PRCs show the different shape depending on firing frequency.The firing frequency may influence the shape of a PRC due to the existence of refractory period regarding subthreshold membrane potential.In this study, we analytically derive the relation between the neuronal refractory period of a single neuron and the PRC of the SRM, and show the influence of neuronal refractory period on the PRC.Furthermore we estimate the kernel of the SRM from a conductance based model, and compare the PRCs estimated from the kernel with the PRCs obtained numerically.
