Adaptive Amplify-and-Forward Relaying with Fractional Frequency Reuse for Cellular System

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper presents an adaptive amplify-and-forward (AF)-type relaying method with fractional frequency reuse for the cellular uplink. The adaptive AF relaying method adaptively selects the active relay stations (RSs) based on the path loss between each mobile terminal and the base station (BS) and that between each RS in order to mitigate the enhancement of inter-cell interference and reduction in the frequency efficiency due to the application of the AF-type relaying. Furthermore, the fractional frequency reuse restricts the assigned bandwidth for the terminal with relay transmission so that the amount of the inter-cell interference is further reduced at the cost of the reduced transmission bandwidth. The computer simulations show that the proposed method can improve the throughput of the cell-edge users by increasing the geometrical regions where the relay-transmission is allowed while reducing the fractional frequency reuse factor for mitigating the increase in the inter-cell interference due to relaying.
