Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer for the Earth Observing System (AMSR-E) is a JAXA developed spaceborne microwave radiometer provided to the NASA’s Aqua satellite. Since the launch of the Aqua satellite in May 2002, AMSR-E has been continuing global observation for more than seven years and accumulating unique dataset including cloud-through sea surface temperature and wide-area/quantitative soil moisture content. JAXA is now pursuing the Global Change Observation Mission (GCOM). GCOM-W1, the first satellite of GCOM, will be equipped with the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer-2 (AMSR2). Continuing the AMSR-E and GCOM-W observations will provide long-term data records up to 20 years, which will contribute in monitoring the Earth’s climate.
