A study of multi-user MIMO using lattice reduction

(in English) In multi-user multi-input multi-output (MIMO) multiplexing, the superposition of different user’s transmit signals is received. As a signal detection method, maximum likelihood detection (MLD) and linear filtering have been proposed. Although the linear filtering is much simpler than the MLD, its diversity order is the difference between the numbers of receive antennas and users; therefore, as the number of users increases, the diversity order reduces and hence the achievable bit error rate (BER) performance degrades. The introduction of the lattice reduction to the linear filtering can achieve the same diversity order as the MLD irrespective of the number of users. However, the lattice reduction aided linear filtering in multi-user MIMO has not been fully studied. In this paper, we evaluate, by computer simulation, the outage probability of BER of the uplink multi-user MIMO multiplexing using lattice reduction in a frequency non-selective channel.
