Mechanisms involved in the regulation of ATP release during ischemia and ischemia/reperfusion injury in cultured cardiomyocytes

(in English) It is known that pannexin or connexin hemichannels and maxi-anion channels work as primary ATP release pathways in many kinds of cells. Although maxi-anion channels are reported as an ATP release pathway during early ischemia, the exact mechanisms responsible for ATP release during ischemia and the relationships between ATP release and ischemia/reperfusion injury are not fully understood at present. We have recently demonstrated that nitric monoxide (NO) generated in cardiomyocytes during ischemia possibly contributes to maintaining the concentration of intracellular ATP. This study aims at elucidating the intracellular signal transduction mechanisms involved in the regulation of ATP release during ischemia in cultured cardiomyocytes.
