40-Gbps transmission over 20 km via SMF using frequency modulated DBR laser

(in English) The recent rapid increase in network traffic is generating demands for the high-speed and wide-area access networks. We have proposed novel transmitters consisting of the distributed Bragg reflector(DBR) laser and the optical filter for FM-AM conversion, which enable the high-speed and long-reach transmission with simple configurations. In this report, we demonstrate their high-speed modulation and transmission characteristics. The InGaAsP DBR laser with a ridge structure was fabricated. The 40-Gb/s NRZ signal is successfully generated using optical filters. A transmission over 0-20 km is successfully demonstrated using a non-dispersion shifted optical fiber.
