Improvement in measurement accuracy of double-pulse Brillouin optical time-domain reflectometry with signal processing technology

(in English) To detect the peak frequency of the Brillouin spectrum accurately is very important to achieve a high accurate strain and temperature distribution measurement by using Brillouin scattered signal in optical fibers. The double-pulse BOTDR has been proposed for measuring distributed strain and/or temperature along optical fibers with a sub-meter spatial resolution, and characterized by the oscillatory spectrum obtained by the interference between backscattered signals of the front and rear pulses. We achieved strain measurement accuracy of ±5μstrain (temperature measurement accuracy of ±0.25℃) with spatial resolution of 20cm by extracting oscillatory component from the measured spectrum by using signal processing technology.
