The frequency spectrum of a conventional ground penetrating radar is ranging from several MHz through 1GHz since the efficient penetration of the transmitted signal into the ground is necessary for the radar system which is designed to be used on the soil having relatively high moisture content. However, it is important to increase the operating frequency of a radar system for higher resolution to detect smaller objects embedded in the shallow area of the soil. In this paper, the electrical parameters of a human equivalent phantom, which is placed inside wall of the cavity, have been optimized for reducing the undesired ringing caused by the multiple reflections inside the cavity. The FDTD simulations and several actual measurements were carried out with two types of register loaded cavity-backed bow-tie antenna: 1) with ferrite coated, and 2) with human equivalent phantom coated, in order to assess the performance of the proposed antenna. |
