Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This report deals with results for eye movement analysis for deaf individuals in reading bilingual emergency messages. In a reading experiment with deaf people for JSL (Japanese Sign Language)/ Japanese bilingual messages, eye movements for deaf individuals are observed. Eye movements in four regions are analysed: (1) JSL message in movie form; (2) Japanese message in text form; (3) Overlap region of JSL and Japanese messages; and (4) Inter-medium region between these ones when there is not any overlap. The eye movements for three subjects are analysed, and the results show certain interesting features. (1) Every subject tends to gaze at the message (language) that he/she mainly uses as in every day life. A subject who uses JSL mainly gazes at more JSL message than Japanese one. On the contrary, a subject who uses Japanese more than JSL gazes at Japanese region more than JSL one. (2) When there is an overlap of JSL and Japanese message regions, eye gaze of each subject stays largely in the overlapping region. The analysis reveals there is large variation in eye movements, and reading styles for JSL/Japanese bilingual messages.
