New chip optical devices have been proposed to realize high-efficiency, and easy-maintenance optical interconnection. Prototypes have been fabricated using VCSEL (vertical cavity surface emitting laser) with outlet rod on the emitting spot. The near-field pattern (NFP) of the chip VCSEL and the eye pattern for the modulation experiment were observed. The analysis of optical coupling was also done by using a ray tracing method. As a result, we confirmed the proposed chip optical devices have large potential as an optical device. |
