Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) It is crucial to correctly detect alarm signals in real environments. However, alarm signals are possibly masked by a variety of noises in real environments. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify perceptual characteristics of alarm signals in noisy environments. The aim of this study is to investigate how spatial cues influence the detectability of alarm signals in noisy environments. In this paper, we measured masked thresholds of alarm signals in the presence of car noise in the virtual acoustic environments regenerated by using head-related transfer functions (HRTFs), which could control spatial cues respectively. The main conclusions are: (a) when the frequency component of the alarm signal is $1.0$ kHz, the detectability of alarm signals was improved by using interaural time difference (ITD) and interaural phase difference (IPD); (b) when the frequency component of the alarm signal is $2.5$ kHz, not only ITD and IPD but also interaural level difference (ILD) play an important role of improvements in alarm signal detection when the signal is fixed in the front of listeners.
