160 Gbit/s OTDM Signal Transmission Using Photonic Crystal Fiber

(in English) We report the 160 Gbit/s (= 10 Gbit/s × 16 ch) OTDM signal transmission experiment over 26-km long photonic crystal fiber (PCF). We show that an OTDM signal pulse of 2.1 ps duration can be transmitted over the 26 km PCF, and a subsequent dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) suppresses the pulse broadening to only 0.2 ps. We have employed the phase modulation-based low-duty pulse generation technique, which utilizes a CW light source, a phase modulator, and a dispersion medium, to obtain a 10 GHz pump pulse for the demultiplexing with fiber four-wave mixing. Error free operation (bit error rate < 10-11) for all of the demultiplexed signals has been realized.
