Analysis of Automatic Parallelism Tuning Mechanism on Layer-1 On-Demand Bandwidth Reservation Model

(in English) In this report, we evaluate the performance of a remote IP storage replication via long-fat network using iSCSI protocol with iSCSI-APT
(Automatic Parallelism Tuning), which automatically adjusts the number
of TCP connections according to the network status.
A new network service, Layer-1 Bandwidth on Demand (L1OD) on SINET3
has just been started its introduction by National Institute of Informatics (NII). L1OD service allows dynamic bandwidth allocation at phsical layer (Layer-1) without disruption.
We have been evaluating the performance of iSCSI-APT on SINET3 with
L1OD service, but our current iSCSI-APT implementation assumes no
chnage in bandwidth allocation during data trasfer.
In this report, we analyze the performance of iSCSI-APT with and
without a parallelism reoptimization mechanism, which is introduced in this report. Through simulations, we show that the parallelism reoptimization mechanism significantly improves the effectiveness of
iSCSI-APT.
