In ad hoc netowrks, since each terminal transmits data using radio
devices, segment loss frequently occurs owing to radio interference or
node mobility. TCP Reno uses a segment loss to detect a congestion and
tries to avoid it by shrinking the congestion window size. In ad hoc
networks, however, segment losses are caused by not only congestion but
also interference and node mobility. Thus, unnecessary congestion
avoidance decreases a communication efficiency. As concern this, TCP
Westwood that uses bandwidth estimation for congestion avoidance and TCP
Vegas that uses RTT to determine the network state are proposed. This
paper proposes a novel transport protocol using the relative RTT to
determine the network state and considering the fairness among protocols
and among terminals. The performance and effectiveness of the proposed
method is clarified by computer simulation. |
