Proposal of session control method cooperating core and overlay network for Minimum Core architecture
Takayuki Warabino, Yoji Kishi, Hidetoshi Yokota (KDDI Labs.) NS2008-172
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The authors are advocating the “Minimum Core” architecture toward New Generation Network (NWGN). In the architecture, network functionalities in the core network (e.g., mobility management and session control) will be minimized by shifting them to the access network. This paper proposes a session control and management method for the “Minimum Core”, in which call-setup time is guaranteed by cooperating core and overlay networks. In the method, call-setup time on the overlay network is estimated prior to the session establishment. If the estimated call-setup time is less than desired time, overlay network is utilized. Otherwise, core system is utilized. This paper also shows basic evaluations of the proposed method which was conducted on a developed test-bed system.
