At the satellite design contest held on November 2 2008, we received a prize of the award of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers. Our satellite, named Hokushin, is designed to conduct an observation mission of sea ice in the specific region of the Arctic Ocean using a CMOS camera. By observing in two different wavelength ranges, thickness of the sea ice can be estimated. These data is necessary for a deep and accurate understanding of the mechanism of sea-ice melting, which is essential for the better climate modeling. |
