When two neighboring empty time intervals are marked by three successive sounds, assimilation occurs between their perceived lengths. The aim of the present study was to examine how varying the marker durations influences the occurrence of the perceptual assimilation. In Experiment 1, participants compared the lengths of the two neighboring intervals, and in Experiment 2, the subjective length of each interval was measured. Patterns with different marker-duration combinations were used in these experiments. When the second of two successive sounds was longer, the time interval marked by the onsets of these sounds seemed to be perceived as longer also in the present paradigm. |
