Experimental Investigation of UHF Antenna Construction for HF- and UHF-bands Hybrid Card-Type RFID Tag

(in English) The purpose of this paper is to find an effective UHF-antenna construction for an HF- and UHF- bands hybrid card-type RFID tag. Radiation characteristics of two types of UHF antenna are investigated experimentally. The first half of this paper, the radiation characteristic of a UHF dipole antenna located inside a planar coil with several-turn is discussed. It is shown that radiation efficiency of the dipole antenna significantly degrades because of large coupling between the dipole and the coil. It is also shown that the radiation efficiency can be drastically improved if the coil conductor is open-circuited at appropriate several points. In the latter half, a monopole antenna construction using the coil conductor positively as a ground-conductor, is proposed in order to avoid the above coupling problem and to achieve high radiation efficiency. High radiation efficiency is obtained when the coil parameter is appropriately selected. The suppression of the dependency of the radiation efficiency on the coil parameter is our next work.
