In optical path networks, when continuous bands of wavelengths are required or equipments receive maintenances, it is possible not to cut the existing optical paths in the bands or on equipments but to let the paths migrate to elsewhere. There is a common misunderstanding that the end to end principle is applicable not to circuit, including optical path, switching but to packet switching with datagrams. However, it is shown that, following the end to end principle, smooth migration without temporary black out of communication is possible. |
