The implicit finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method based on the locally one-dimensional (LOD) scheme is extended to a frequency-dependent version with the help of a trapezoidal recursive convolution (TRC) technique and the extended method is applied to the analysis of plasmonic waveguide devices. After formulating the TRC-LOD-FDTD, we analyze a metal cladding optical waveguide expressed in the Drude model. It is revealed that the TRC technique requiring a single convolution integral yields the numerical accuracy comparable to that of the PLRC technique with two convolution integrals. Next, we investigate the sidelobe suppression in a plasmon waveguide grating (PWG). It is shown that the use of an apodized and a chirped grating leads to a significant reduction in the sidelobes. Finally, we analyze a plasmonic microcavity in which a defect section is introduced into the PWG. By changing the width of the air core region, we obtain tunable characteristics of the resonance wavelength. |
