Since a specific checkup scheme was initiated in April 2008, the number of fundus examinations has increased rapidly in Japan. In our project, we are developing a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system for the early detection of ocular diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy, using retinal fundus images. The detection of hemorrhages and exudates is important in diagnosing diabetic retinopathy. Therefore, we have been developing a hemorrhage detection method for analyzing retinal fundus images. The sensitivity of the hemorrhage detection was 80% with a specificity of 88%. |
