Study on Control Strategy for Power-Assisted Bicycle On-Site

(in English) In a previous study, the power-assist control of a bicycle using a fuzzy inference was necessary to redesign the control strategy due to the insufficient evaluation of muscle fatigue.
The aim of this study was to propose a practical approach for estimating muscle fatigue on-site and accomplishing an appropriate power-assist control in the field.
Actually, to estimate muscle fatigue we focused on the segment where the amplitude of surface EMG was clearly increasing, but the frequency components was decreasing.
Ten participants climbed the slope in two-stage with the specially designed power-assisted bicycle.
We changed the assist ratio during climbing automatically just before the second stage.
The proposed approach allowed us to evaluate muscle fatigue properly in a shorter time than a conventional one.
Moreover, changes in the assist ratio did not immediately release the muscle fatigue.
Finally, we discussed the control strategy for power-assisted bicycle in the field.
