| (in English) | A robust spot-size converter (SSC) for silicon-wire waveguides is proposed. The SSC is comprised of a horizontal linear up-taper and a vertical nonlinear one in cascaded configuration. The vertical taper is made of a-Si:H deposited by using rf-sputtering method, whereas the horizontal taper and silicon-wire waveguide are formed on an SOI substrate at the same time with the electron-beam lithography. The measured net coupling loss between a single-mode fiber and the silicon wire waveguide through the fabricated SSC is 4.7dB. The SSC proposed is polarization- and wavelength-insensitive compared with conventional SSCs. | |
