For Japanese airspace, the GNSS, global navigation satellite system, is being introduced as a means of RNAV navigation and approach procedures. The wide area augmentation system called MSAS has been operated since 2007, which provides a sole means of navigation as well as GPS/RAIM. However, the fact that there are many specifications on GNSS receivers might make their function and performance difficult to understand. Here, the authors classify functions and performance of GNSS as a navigation system with respect to its configuration, and report potential advantages on operation of airplane. |
