[Invited Talk] Basic Properties of Auditory Presence -- Content Presence vs. System Presence --
Kenji Ozawa (Univ. of Yamanashi) EA2008-115
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The auditory presence of a reproduced sound depends on its content and the characteristics of the system used. In this study, the former property is referred to as “content presence,” while the latter is called “system presence.” Two psychoacoustical experiments were conducted using the method of Scheffé’s paired comparison, to measure the content and system presences. For the content presence, the results showed that the sounds of moving sound sources were evaluated as having a higher presence than the sounds of stationary sound sources. As for the system presence, the accuracy of sound localization was important. Moreover, it is found that the system presence is comparable to the content presence in audio reproduction systems. The effects of visual information and reproduced sound pressure level were also examined.
