We redesigned a new ground pattern of suspended-coupled balun using multilayer interconnection structure, and incresed bandwidth of balanced characteristics.
With the structure that reported last time, the surrounding ground of the balun caused half-wavelength resonance at 6.5\,GHz. We showed that it was the cause of disorder of the balanced characteristics.
In this paper, the up-and-down part of the surrounding ground was eliminated, a ground was newly established in the 3rd layer. Between this layer and the ground of surface right and left was connected with via.
We fabricated the proposed balun using Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) substrate. From the measurement and simulation results, undesirable characteristics around 6.5\,GHz has been canceled.
From the measurement result, the amplitude differences were within 0$\pm$1\,dB and phase differences were 180$\pm$5$^\circ$ over the frequency range of 2.00 to 5.75\,GHz (fractional bandwidth of 107\,\%, and center frequency of 4.3\,GHz). |
