Adaptive Packet Length Control using Bit Error Rate Characteristics for Wireless LANs

(in English) Quality of Service (QoS) is one of the most crucial problems in multimedia communication such as VoIP and video streaming using wirelessLANs. This article proposes an analysis method on the optimum data packet length by which the maximum throughput is obtained estimating BER as link-by-link characteristics from PER. The authors also propose a dynamic data packet length control method based on the optimum data packet length. This dynamic control enables to reduce the long packet losses in unstable communication environments, and to improve the short packet transmission efficiency in stable communication environments. The effectiveness of the proposed methods are quantitatively evaluated and proven through the network simulation.
