Usually the healthcare professional would use 4 diagnostic instruments (blood pressure, pulse, temperature and breath) to measure these vital signs. In this paper, a vital sign monitor using the pressure on the external auditory canal that has no restriction of patients and suiting biofeedback was proposed. First, an occluded-ear microphone system was simulated based on the simplifying assumptions that the human ear canal can be treated as a uniform cylinder. From the experimental results, we see that measuring pressures achieved by varying the volume of a cavity can be known by the displacements from the pistonphone principle. Second, the pressure signals were translated with a method of amplitude modulation into audible sounds. From the results, it can be found that the sounds of modulation frequency at 100Hz are strong, powerful and seemed to be a heartbeat sound. |
