Neuronal Spike Sorting Method Using Frequency-domain ICA for Multi-site Multi-unit Recording Data

(in English) Multi-unit recordings with multi-site electrodes have been widely used in the field of neuroscience and neuroengineering, for such as brain-machine interface. This method requires sorting of neuronal spikes according to the pattern of spike waveforms. For this purpose, the independent component analysis (ICA) is known to be useful. However the accuracy of the sorting result is not sufficient in many cases. We have proposed an efficient spike sorting method combined with the wavelet transform and the complex-valued ICA (WICA method) which achieves higher sorting accuracy than the conventional ones. In this study, we explore the parameter dependency of the WICA method on the accuracy of sorting results by using the simulated multi-unit data. In addition, we propose three methods to automatically determine the threshold level for neuronal spike detection from the unmixed signals obtained by the WICA method.
