Direction Estimation of Cellular BTS Bsaed Positioning Using Multi-Observations

(in English) In base station (BTS) positioning, the location of a cellular phone is estimated using information received at the BTS. Conventional methods cannot estimate the direction of a mobile station (MS) with high accuracy
when only one BTS can receive the MS signal. Therefore, the positioning accuracy deteriorates. In this paper, we propose a method that more accurately estimates the direction of a MS using antenna patterns and the average received power ratio of multiple observed sectors. The average received power ratio of the sectors is obtained not through direct measurement using the MS, but using a method that estimates the position based on observation results of the sector reception situation. This enables us to estimate the direction from simply obtained information. The evaluation results of the proposed method based on computer simulations of the direction accuracy and positioning accuracy are presented, and the effectiveness of the proposed method with respect to the improvement in the positioning accuracy is clarified.
