Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The prime issue of burst-mode optical amplification is distortion of envelope of packet because of gain transience. Such distortion tends to be increase by increase of power of bursty signal. We, at first, present two scenario to avoid transience on EDFA. One is use of low-transient burst-mode EDFA, and another is adoption of monitoring and controlling scheme to adjust average power according to traffic density. The latter scenario can be said that it is not attention to average power but attention to power of bursty signal when we consider power budget of optical link.
We already presented about the first scenario. In this report, we investigate implementation of burst-mode EDFA assuming the second scenario. If we adjust average power according to traffic density, we can avoid extremely high power of bursty signal while average power will change drastically. Such change of input power into EDFA cause collapse of gain flatness. Thereby, we present new configuration of overpumping + mid-position GFF and achieve improved characteristics. The important feature of our configuration is that it can maintain the advantage of low-transient burst-mode operation based on the first scenario. That is to say, we succeed development of convertible burst-mode EDFA with presentation of two scenarios to avoid gain transience.
