A Basic Study of Low-Sidelobe Antenna for Road-Vehicle Communication System

(in English) Recently, advanced information processing technology and digital communications technology for
intelligent transport systems are being studied and developed.
As an example of future high-speed communication a millimeter-wave band road-vehicle communication systems using a next-generation wireless communication system are considered.
Meanwhile, in recent years 5 GHz band DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communication) and any ITS systems such as 10 GHz band sensors are actually used.
These systems are a vehicle-to-vehicle communication and a road-vehicle communication as such.
It is considered that a patch array antenna, which has elements with various amplitude is used for the road-vehicle communication required antennas with low sidelobe and high gain.
In this paper, low sidelobe array antennas are composed by series-connected elements.
Also, the radiation characteristics of these antennas are calculated by FDTD analysis and measured by prototypes.
As a result, we show the patch array antenna with five elements, which has the sidelobe level lower than --16dB and the relative bandwidth about 1.4\%.
