Generation of Lamb wave and Its Application to NDE Using Double-Layed Piezoelectric Transducer

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Lamb waves of finite amplitude are generated in a glass plate having closed cracks by using a double-layered piezoelectric transducer (DLPT) in opposing polarization direction, and second harmonic components generating from closed crack are detected by DLPT. As the results, second harmonic components including the waves reflected from closed crack area are increased by approximately 15 dB compared with these from no-crack area. Furthermore, Lamb waves of finite amplitude are generated in a glass plate having closed cracks by using a DLPT in aligning polarization direction, and subharmonic components generating from closed crack are also detected by DLPT. As the results, subharmonic components including the waves reflected from closed crack area are increased by approximately 5 dB compared with these from no-crack area. Usefulness of nonlinearity of Lamb wave for the nondestructive evaluation (NDE) in a pulse-echo method using DLPT is demonstrated.
