The mechanical property of biological tissues is an important index for the diagnosis of organ dysfunction and diseases. Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) is based on a phase-contrast MRI imaging technique. Mechanical waves can be visualized and shear modulus is measured in tissue applied to harmonic mechanical excitation. We have been using a transverse driver which generates shear waves at the object surface and gradient-echo (GRE) based MRE sequence. The problems of the MRE system is that shear waves rapidly attenuate at the surface of tissue. And GRE-MRE sequence needs long scan-time. In this study, we develop longitudinal driver and spin-echo EPI based MRE sequence. The longitudinal driver was found to induce shear waves inside the kidney. The scan time of SE-EPI MRE sequence is 6.4 times faster than the GRE-MRE sequence. These results suggest that the longitudinal driver with SE-EPI MRE sequence will suitable for in-vivo study. |
