CSMA/CA is considered as the de-facto channel access scheme for distributed communications. However, in CSMA/CA, reliability performance degrades with the increase of the number of nodes. On the other hand, although communication range of CDMA is much smaller compared to that of CSMA/CA, CDMA can ensure reliable communication between neighboring nodes. This reason motivates our research and development activities on MM-SA (Multi-Carrier Multi-Code) inter-vehicle communication system that can achieve reliable and fast communication between neighboring vehicles. However, in some scenarios, such as preventing crossing collisions, position information of a vehicle has to be transmitted to vehicle(s), which is relatively far. This paper introduces an MM-SA-based packet forwarding scheme that can be applied to the target scenarios. Simulation results show that, compared to an CSMA/CA-based forwarding scheme, the proposed scheme improves packet delivery ratio by 20% and reduces forwarding latency by larger than 15 milliseconds. |
