A Study for Estimating Optical Parameters in Scattering Media by Utilizing Time-Resolved Diffused Optical Tomography

(in English) Reconstructed image quality improvements of inhomogeneous scattering medium utilizing time-resolved optical tomography has been studied. Only backscattered optical pulses are used to reconstruct optical absorption coefficient images of two-dimensional scattering medium of 80×40mm2. Experimental pulses are simulated by superimposing Poisson random variables on theoretical pulse calculated by finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. Optical parameters are estimated by minimizing least mean squares of theoretical and experimental pulse amplitude utilizing conjugate gradient (CG) method. It has been become clear that estimated optical absorption coefficients accuracies are improved by expanding Yee grid increments from 2 to 4mm, which reduce the number of estimated optical parameters to one fourth. It has also been become clear that TN minimizations reconstruct highly accurate images compared with CG when source-detector separation is reduced to 8mm.
