Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The Envelope Pulse-Width Modulation (EPWM) transmitter enables a highly efficient linear amplification. Noise characteristics of a 1st order delta-sigma (?-?) modulator EPWM transmitter have been presented. However, in this paper, a different approach to analyzing the in-band noise characteristics of first-order and higher-order ?-? modulators is introduced. The quantizer is modeled as a linear gain plus noise. The effective quantizer gain which can only be obtained through simulations can be used to adjust theoretical values. Distortion noise introduced by envelope clipping is also considered. From the simulation results on the IEEE 802.11a OFDM system, the effective quantizer gain is less than one for 2nd order ?-? modulators. Moreover, a better error-vector magnitude (EVM) estimate can be obtained if the EPWM in-band noise is computed using the bandwidth of the OFDM envelope.
