Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Satellite broadcasting in the 21-GHz band is expected to transmit large-capacity signals such as ultrahigh-definition TV. However, this band suffers from large amounts of rain attenuation. In this regard, we have been studying rain fading mitigation techniques, in which the radiation power is increased locally in the area of heavy rainfall. To evaluate the effect of the rain fading mitigation technique, we calculate the service availability using a method to transform rainfall rate such as radar AMeDAS into rain attenuation. In the calculation, we assumed the phased array antenna configuration of which the aperture diameter is 2.2m and the number of the elements is 61. This configuration enables to form a radiation pattern having a circular boosted area. The result of this antenna configuration shows the service availability increased using the rain fading mitigation technique.
