A Study on Shadowing Loss Characteristics due to a Vehicle staying at Intersection in Inter-Vehicle Communication Systems

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Analyzing the effect of vehicles around transmitting and receiving antennas is important in order to construct propagation loss model for Inter-Vehicle Communications. This paper presents prediction of received power generated by computer simulation based on the geometrical optics theory in a situation that a turning vehicle is staying at an intersection between transmitting and receiving antennas. This report evaluates differences between received power with and without obstructive vehicles as shadowing loss, for two 50m long evaluation regions of 0-50m and 175-225m from the intersection, two frequencies of 0.7GHz and 5.8GHz, the transmitting and receiving antenna heights, and the polarization. The result shows that using vertical polarization is less shadowing loss than using horizontal polarization.
