The Earth Clouds, Aerosols and Radiation Explorer (EarthCARE) mission has been jointly proposed by European and Japanese scientists, and has been developed by European Space Agency((ESA) and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) in collaboration with National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT). The Cloud Profiling Radar (CPR), one of payloads of the EarthCARE, has Doppler measurement ability to provide the vertical velocity of cloud/precipitation particles as well as the vertical profile of cloud structure along the sub-satellite track. This paper describes the overview of the mission, specification and concept design of EarthCARE/CPR, and the results of BBM manufacturing of the main reflector. |
