For images extremely corrupted by impulsive noise, a switching median filter with boundary discriminative detection (BDND) has been proposed. The BDND has a good performance for impulsive noise detection; however its performance is degraded with conditions of the occurrence of the impulsive noise. This paper proposes an improvement method for the BDND and a new impulsive noise reduction filter for which the improved BDND is used. A new boundary detection method between noise and the uncorrupted pixel is developed for the impulsive noise with different possibilities for low and high values. The proposed method contributes to improve the detection rate and the noise reduction performance. The simulation results show that the proposed method can give the good performance compared to the noised reduction filter with the ordinary BDND. |
